Brian Callahan
Brian Callahan came to Newark Academy in 2023 as the varsity baseball head coach after 20-plus years of coaching at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he was the head baseball coach for 10 years. Here, he is also the current Assistant Director of Physical Education and Recreation.
During his tenure at NJIT, Coach Callahan led the baseball team through its transition from Division II to Division I. He was twice named conference Coach of the Year, and his teams have also won the conference sportsmanship award. Coach Callahan guided NJIT to the school's only Division II championship and set the school record for wins with 27. In addition to coaching and working at NJIT, Coach Callahan has been an assistant coach at Saint Peter’s Prep, where he helped guide the Marauders to six Hudson County championships. Coach Callahan played baseball in high school and college and was invited to try out for the Chicago Cubs. He was named to the All-MAAC Academic Team during his senior year at Saint Peter's University.
Coach Callahan lives in West Orange with his wife Geri, daughter Ashleen and son Gerald.
