Deon Mingo
Deon Mingo joined Newark Academy as the boys' varsity basketball head coach after serving as the head coach for three years at North 13th Street Tech High school in Newark, N.J. Coach Mingo began his coaching career at Dwight Englewood Day school in Englewood, N.J., and after a five-year stint here, he moved on to the college ranks and was an assistant coach at Rutgers University-Newark under head coach Joe Loughran.
Coach Mingo, a Guyanese native, holds a B.A. in Sociology and Criminal justice from Bloomfield College and, an M.A. in Sports Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Outside of school, Coach Mingo enjoys playing basketball, tennis, podcasting, reading and spending time with his family and his children Deon Jr., Joshua and Lauren.
