Lou Scerra

In 2018, Lou returned to Newark Academy after two years pursuing an M.B.A. at Duke’s Fuqua School of Business. During Lou’s first stint at Newark Academy, Lou taught in the English and Humanities departments, coached tennis, and served as the English Department Chair. Lou currently serves as the varsity head coach for the boys' and girls' tennis programs. Under Lou's leadership, the boys' team won the state, county, conference, and Tournament of Champions (ToC) titles in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons, amassing a combined 49-0 record. In 2021-22, the girls' team captured the Non-Public B state championship and advanced to the ToC semifinals. Since his start as head coach, Lou has amassed a combined overall record of 95-12 between both the boys’ and girls’ programs. When he isn’t on the tennis court, Lou serves on the school’s administration as the Senior Director of External Affairs and Strategy. In addition to his M.B.A, Lou holds an A.B. in English from Dartmouth College, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Emerson College, and an M.A. in English from Fordham University. Lou enjoys cooking, golf, music, and spending time with his wife and three daughters.
