The Minutemen of Newark Academy dominated the Essex County Tournament this past week. After having a bye in the first round, the Minutemen faced Columbia in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, April 20. Columbia was able to win the second doubles match, but Newark Academy remained resilient and won the remainder to advance to the semifinal round against Livingston on Saturday morning. In the semifinal round, the Minutemen topped Livingston 5-0 to move on to the final. Meanwhile, on the other side of the tournament bracket, the Millburn Millers notched a shutout in every round, earning them the opposing spot in the final round on Saturday afternoon. The Millers were no match for a strong Newark Academy team that was able to then earn a well fought, 4-1 win in order to be named Essex County Tournament champions.

This is the fourth consecutive ECT win for the Minutemen, and the 23rd title in program history. They look to keep the wins coming, returning to regular season play this week, and then hosting the 49th annual Newark Academy Tennis Invitational next weekend on April 30 and May 1.
