16-year-old, Owen Markowitz, a rising junior on the boys' swimming team, competed at the 2022 YMCA National Long Course Swimming Championships last month. This meet took place in Greensboro, North Carolina, and spanned from July 19th through 23rd. Athletes travel from all over the eastern U.S. to participate in this event, including mostly 17 and 18-year-old participants from Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, and West Virginia among other states. Markowitz had numerous exceptional performances including placing 1st in the 400 IM, 3rd in the 800 free, 6th in the 200 free, 400 free and 1500 free.

This past season, Markowitz broke the standing school record for the 500 free with a time of 4:41.53 and was also part of the 400 free relay team that broke the standing school record with a time of 3:15.18, as well as the 200 medley relay team that broke the school record with a time of 1:37.29. The Minutemen are looking forward to having Markowitz return along with a strong lineup of teammates that hope to defend their state championship title.
