Coming off a Super Essex Conference (SEC) Independence divisional win, which was the team’s first conference victory since 2013, the Newark Academy wrestling team is looking to build upon that success this season. This will be the second season that the Minutemen will be led by second-year head coaches Bobby and Tyler Loneker. The team captains for this year are All-SEC Second Team SEC 126lb selection Adin Fastov ’23 and All-SEC First Team 132lb selection Cameron Wright ’23.

The Minutemen will be returning multiple additional All-SEC selections. These team members include All-SEC First Team 144lb selection Shreyas Hariharan ’24, All-SEC Second Team SEC 106 selection Sean Gilsenan ’24, All-SEC Second Team 113lb selection Nicholas Thorpe ’25 and All-SEC Second Team 120lb selection Declan Wright ’25.

This season, the Minutemen will be competing in the SEC Colonial Division. Conference opponents will include Orange, East Side, Columbia, Barringer, Newark Collegiate, and East Orange. Newark Academy opens its season on Saturday, December 17 at 9 a.m. with a tri-match at Colts Neck high school where they will face both Colts Neck and Carteret.
