The 2022-23 winter athletics season at Newark Academy boasted several broken records and championship titles. Numerous teams and individuals were highlighted and honored for their monumental achievements. A breakdown of each Minutemen Athletics winter teams’ season can be found below:

Girls' Basketball
Overall record: 21-6
Team Achievements: Prep B Champions, Super Essex Conference Liberty Division Champions

Boys' Swimming
Overall record: 9-2
Team Achievements: Prep B Champions, Non-Public B State Champions
New School Record: Owen Markowitz ’24 - 500 Freestyle (4:31.67)

Girls' Swimming
Overall record: 9-2
Team Achievements: Prep B Champions, Non-Public B State Runner-Up
New School Records: Laura Kim ’25 - 100 Butterfly (57.61), Claire Wong ’25, Phoebe Kaplan ’25, Meghan Lai ’24 and Laura Kim - 200 Freestyle Relay (1:40.48)

Boys’ and Girls’ Winter Track
Boys’ Team Achievements: Prep B Champions
New School Records: Jelani Dean ’23, Kayin Davis ’23, Bryce Rhodeman ’23 and Jaedan Henry ’25 - 4x200 m (1:34.98), Matthew Herbert ’25 - Pole Vault (13' 6")

Boys' Fencing
Overall record: 9-5
Team Achievements: District Tournament: Epee squad (First place), Prep State Tournament: second place overall, Epee squad (First place), Foil squad (Third place)
Individual Achievements: District Tournament: Andrew Deng ’24 - Sabre (Second place), Torata Mishima ’23 - Epee (Second place), Hudson Lee ’24 - Epee (Third place)

Girls' Fencing
Overall record: 3-6
Team Achievements: Prep State Tournament: Epee squad (First place)

Boys' Basketball
Overall record: 5-22
