The Newark Academy field hockey team is gearing up for the 2024 season. After doubling their win count from 2022 to 2023, the team is looking to build on that progress and make a stronger impact this year.

2023 Season Recap:
In 2023, Newark Academy field hockey, led by Head Coach Noelle Shirey, showed signs of growth despite a challenging season.

Major Losses:
The Minutemen will need to fill the void left by Olivia Croshaw ‘24, a standout goalkeeper on the All-Super Essex Conference Liberty Division First Team and All-Essex/Union Blue Division First Team. Croshaw is headed to Dickinson College to continue her field hockey career this fall. Sienna Talles ‘24, also a major contributor, earned similar accolades and her absence will be felt.

Key Returners:
Despite these losses, Newark Academy retains some key players. Margot Waxman ‘26, an All-SEC Liberty Division Second Team and All-Essex/Union Blue Division Second Team selection, will play a crucial role. Veera Jetley ‘25, an All-SEC Liberty Division Honorable Mention and All-Essex/Union Blue Division Second Team pick, along with Eden Avery ‘27, an All-SEC Liberty Division and All-Essex Union Blue Division Honorable Mention, will also be key to the team's success. This season, the team will be led by captains Jetley, Waxman and Lynna King ‘25.

Season Outlook:
The Minutemen will compete in the Essex/Union Blue Division against Columbia, Westfield, Cranford, Caldwell, Mount Saint Dominic and Union, as well as in the Super Essex Conference Liberty Division against Millburn, Verona, Caldwell, Columbia and Mount Saint Dominic. The season opener is scheduled for Thursday, September 5, at Union at 4 p.m.
