The Newark Academy Minutemen football team is set to embark on a new season under the leadership of second-year Head Coach Akil Boucaud. Things have been looking up for the Minutemen after besting Montclair Kimberley Academy for a thrilling victory last season.

Last season, the Minutemen demonstrated potential for growth, setting the stage for a more competitive 2024 season.

Major Losses
The team will be missing some significant contributors from last year including captains Dylan Wapner’ 24 and Andrew Crawford ‘24, along with Evan Wang ‘24, an All-Metropolitan Independent Football League (MIFL) First Team selection, Ewan Jack ‘24, also an All-MIFL First Team selection and Justin Baker ‘24, an All-MIFL Second Team selection.

Key Returners
Despite these losses, Newark Academy has some promising returning talent and newcomers alike. Chase Fink ‘25, a Second Team All-MIFL selection, will play a crucial role in leading the team and providing stability on the field.

Season Outlook
The Minutemen will compete in the Metropolitan Independent Football League (MIFL) Southern Division, which will include Pingry, Morristown Beard and Montclair Kimberley Academy. The season opener is set for August 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Wallington, where the Minutemen will look to start the season on a positive note.
