The Newark Academy Minutemen girls' tennis team is set to embark on a new season with high expectations and some changes in leadership.
2023 Season Recap
The 2023 season was a standout year for Newark Academy girls' tennis. The team’s impressive 14-3 record and their performance in the State Sectional Final highlighted a season of significant achievements. The departure of head coach Lou Scerra, who stepped down, and the graduation of key players presents both a challenge and an opportunity for the team.
Major Losses

The team will also adjust to the transition of leadership with former assistant coach Rich DiBianca stepping in as head coach.

Despite these losses, Newark Academy has a strong returning lineup. Lily Schonbraun ‘26, along with Ayanna Varma ‘25, both highly decorated award winners, will be crucial to the team’s success. Joining them will be other decorated honorees, Siyonda Bordia ‘25, Maddy Kayyali ‘25, Sarah Wang ‘25 and Kayra Aran ‘26.
