Jordan Cafiero and Benjamin Duan was able to best Newark Academy's duo of Andy Nagpal and Ethan Polen, the Minutemen won out all other matches to move on to championship Sunday.
On the opposite side of the bracket, the Dragons of Greens Farms Academy beat Delbarton 5-0 in the first round. In the second round, the Dragons were up against a talented East Brunswick team that put up a fight, but could not overcome GFA. This resulted in a 3-2 GFA victory advancing them to the final round on Sunday versus Newark Academy.
The championship matchup between Newark Academy and GFA was nothing short of exciting. Newark Academy first singles, Nick Kotzen and second singles Josh Mandelbaum both won in two sets to give the Minutemen the 2-0 lead. GFA's Coleman Merce notched one for the Dragons in third singles over Newark Academy's Andrew Kotzen putting the score at 2-1 Minutemen. Both first doubles and second doubles were thrilling matchups that were sent to the third set after tying the first of two. After numerous rallies and cheers from both sides of the crowd, first singles duo Andy Nagpal and Ethan Polen, and second singles duo Saif Prabhu and Jean-Luc Marchand came out victorious to carry the Minutemen to their 16th Newark Academy Tennis Invitational title.
