The Newark Academy boys' track team raced at the Super Essex Conference championship on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning. The Minutemen finished with a commanding score of 196 to earn the Independence division title over seven other teams. University came in second with a score of 66, and Eagle Academy finished third with 45. The other competitors included Cedar Grove (38), Immaculate Conception (28), Glen Ridge (24), Weequahic (18) and Technology (8).

The Minutemen had numerous first place finishers in the victory, including Pierce Malloy (1600, 3200); Cameron Wright (800 and Pole Vault); Bryce Rhodeman (High Jump); LJ Hines (Triple Jump); Tre Peart (Shot Put); Evan Wang (Discus); and Ishaan Solanki (Javelin).

The team is headed to the Essex County Individual championships on Thursday, May 19 and Friday, May 20 at Montclair. They will then host the Prep Championship on Monday, May 23.
