The Newark Academy varsity field hockey team is eager to get the 2022 season underway. After a strong 8-4 season record and an Essex/Union Blue Division title in 2020, Newark Academy was bumped up to the Essex/Union White Division for the 2021 season pitting them up against top teams in the state. The team then finished the 2021 season with a 5-12 record.

Upon the conclusion of last season, the Minutemen graduated two key seniors, Tess Kesler ’22 and Lauren Hardman ’22. Tess was named second Team All-SEC and first Team all Essex/Union White Division. Lauren will be playing field hockey at Swarthmore College this fall. Returning for the Minutemen are key seniors Aakriti Caprihan ’23, Kaitlyn Chee ’23 and Anusha Thapa ’23 and junior goalkeeper Olivia Croshaw ’22.

Under the leadership of fourth-year Head Coach Noelle Shirey and captains Aakriti, Anusha and Pamela Davidson ’23, the team will compete in the Liberty Division within the Super Essex Conference. Conference matchups will include Caldwell, Columbia, Mount Saint Dominic, Livingston and Verona. This season, the team will compete in the Essex/Union Blue Division.

The Minutemen host Caldwell on Thursday, September 8 at 4 p.m. on Coursen Field for their season opener.
