The boys’ and girls’ varsity cross country teams have been hard at work preparing for the upcoming 2022 season, including their annual preseason trip to Brewster Academy in New Hampshire for training.

Coming off NA Invitational, prep and state championships, the boys’ squad is hoping to defend their titles this season. Head Coach Sarah Guelich, who has led the program since 2018, was named NJ.com Coach of the Year last season. Captains Silas Epstein ’23, Pierce Malloy ’23 and Yavan Vyas ’23 will look to lead the Minutemen to more successes this season, through the challenge of losing key graduates and All-Super Essex Conference Second Team selections Max Gortbaty ’22 and Andy Nagpal ’22.

On the girls’ side, the team will be led by captain and 2021 All-Super Essex Conference American Division Honorable Mention Juliet Bu ’23 and captain Lola Cantillon ’23. The pair will help lead the team through the loss of recent graduate, 2021 All-Super Essex Conference American Division Honorable Mention Emily Swope, and hopefully towards capturing the conference title once again, as they did in 2019.

Both squads open their seasons on Saturday, September 10 when they host the annual Newark Academy Invitational at 9 a.m.
