This past weekend, our boys’ and girls’ cross country teams made their way to Branch Brook Park to compete in the 2022 Essex County Cross Country Championships. The Newark Academy girls’ team finished tenth out of 16 teams with a score of 301. Sophomore Alexandra Singh was the first to cross the finish line for the Minutemen.

The Newark Academy boys’ team had an exceptional day, coming in second place out of 21 teams. They finished with a score of 103 behind Montclair. Senior Pierce Malloy placed second overall with a time of 16:27.7, just two seconds behind the first-place finisher, Ian Zalewski from Verona High School. With this time, Pierce broke the standing Newark Academy record for Branch Brook Park previously held by Jackson Powers. The season is winding down for the Minutemen, as they only have the Prep Championship and State Tournament remaining.
