BOYS' AND GIRLS' SWIMMING FINISH SECOND IN THE ESSEX COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Boys' and Girls' Swimming Finish Second in the Essex County Championship

The Newark Academy boys' and girls' swim teams competed at the Essex County Championship meet at NJIT this past Monday. Both teams were able to finish second overall. The boys' team finished behind Seton Hall Prep with a final score of 181. The girls' team finished behind Montclair with a final score of 215. Not only were both teams able to produce strong team finishes, but some relay and individual swimmers had top finishes and broke records as well.

On the boys' side, Owen Markowitz '24 won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:31.67 which also broke the standing county, conference and school records.

On the girls' side, Laura Kim '25 finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.61, breaking the standing Newark Academy record. The girls' 200-yard freestyle relay made up of Claire Wong '25, Phoebe Kaplan '25, Meghan Lai '24 and Laura Kim placed first and broke the county, conference and school records with a time of 1:40.49.
