Boys' Track & Field 2023 Season Preview

Coming off an undefeated, 7-0 finish in the 2022 season, the Newark Academy boys’ track and field team is looking to find more success this season. Last season, the team took the conference, sectional and prep titles. This year’s captains, Pierce Malloy ’23, Bryce Rhodeman ’23, Ethan Garcia ’23 and Jelani Dean ’23 will look to facilitate this season’s successes.

The team will be led by first-year Head Coach Nick Veneroso. Coach Veneroso joined the Newark Academy staff this winter as the winter track head coach. This will be his first spring with the Minutemen.

The Minutemen bring back numerous key returners this year. They include All-Super Essex Conference (SEC) Independence division First team (800m and Pole Vault) Cameron Wright ’23, All-SEC Independence division First team (1600m and 3200m) Pierce Malloy ’23, All-SEC Independence division First team (High Jump) and All-SEC Independence division Second team (100m and 200m) Bryce Rhodeman ’23, All-SEC Independence division First team (Triple Jump) Lavarra Hines ’24, All-SEC Independence division First team (Shot Put) Marvin (Tre) Peart ’24, All-SEC Independence division First team (Discuss) Evan Wang ’24, All-SEC Independence division First team (Javelin) Ishaan Solanki ’24, All-SEC Independence division Second team (800m, 1600m and 4x400 relay) Ethan Garcia ’23, All-SEC Independence division Second team (3200m) Luka Opacic Rodrigues ’23, All-SEC Independence division Second team (4x400 relay) Kayin Davis ’23 and All-SEC Independence division Second team (4x400 relay) Luka Loncar ’23.

Newark Academy will rely on these returners to navigate the graduation of All-SEC Independence division Second team (4x400 relay) Christopher Keating ’23, All-SEC Independence division Second team (Triple Jump) Avi Parameshwar ’23 and All-SEC Independence division Second team (Javelin) Dominik Tasse ’23.

This season, the squad will compete in the SEC Colonial Independence division against Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Eagle Academy, Glen Ridge, Immaculate, MKA, Newark Collegiate, Newark Lab, Newark Tech, Science Park, Shabazz, Technology, University, Verona and Weequahic. They open up their season on Tuesday, April 4 against Glen Ridge and Eagle Academy.
