Boys' Track and Field Has Impressive Performance at Essex County Relays

The Newark Academy boys' track and field team participated in the Essex County Relays on Friday, May 5 held at Livingston High School. The team finished at an impressive sixth place overall out of 17 total teams. The Minutemen had numerous notable finishes throughout the meet, which also included two broken school records.

The 4x1600 team consisting of Pierce Malloy '23, Connor Polen '26, Ethan Garcia '23 and Luka Opacic Rodrigues '24 finished in first place and shattered the Newark Academy standing school record with a time of 18:44. The shuttle hurdle relay consisting of LJ Hines '24, Tom Pesquin '24, Noah Gezahegn '25 and Xavier Atwell '26 also broke a school record with a time of 1:15:38, putting them in seventh place. Other notable finishes include: Matthew Herbert '25 and Cameron Wright '23 both finished first in pole vault. The 4x800 team consisting of Pierce, Connor, Luka and Ethan came in third with a time of 8:21. The distance medley made up of Ethan, Kayin Davis '23, Jordan Hall '26 and Pierce finished with a time of 11:18 placing them in fourth. Both Jelani Dean '23 and Tre Peart '24 finished in fifth place in shot put. LJ and Ishaan Solanki '24 finished sixth place in the triple jump. Lastly, Ishaan and Tre finished in sixth place in javelin.

The Minutemen are hoping to continue their success at the Super Essex Conference Championships on Saturday, May 13 at School Stadium in Newark.
