The Newark Academy varsity girls' tennis team is eager to defend its Super Essex Conference (SEC) American Division championship title this upcoming season. Led by esteemed Head Coach Lou Scerra, the team is poised to showcase exceptional skills on the court and continue its impressive legacy.

Last season, the Minutemen finished with a stellar record of 17-3, capturing the SEC American Division championship for the first time since 2001.

As they embark on the upcoming season, the Minutemen bid farewell to recent graduates Hilary Adelman ‘23 (All-State Third Team, All Non-Public All Group Second Team, and All-SEC American Division Second Team selection and captain) and Mallika Reddy ‘23 (All-SEC Second Team selection and captain).

Despite these departures, the Minutemen are fortunate to welcome back a talented group of players who are ready to leave their mark on the court. This includes Ayanna Varma ‘25 (All-State Third Team, All Non-Public All Group Second Team, All-SEC American Division First Team and captain), Molly Egan ‘24 (All-State Third Team, All Non-Public All Group Second Team, All-SEC American Division Second Team and captain), Siyona Bordia ‘25 (All-State All-Flight Second Team, All Non-Public All Group Third Team, All-SEC American Division Honorable Mention), Sarah Wang ‘25 (All-State All-Flight Second Team All Non-Public All Group Third Team, All-SEC Honorable Mention) and Joanna Yu ‘25 (All-SEC First Team and captain).

Competing in the Super Essex Conference American Division, the Minutemen will face opponents including Montclair Kimberley Academy, Millburn, West Essex, Livingston and Montclair.

The season opener is set for September 5 at 4 p.m., where the team will face West Essex at home on their newly renovated courts.
