The Newark Academy boys' varsity soccer team is preparing for an action-packed season, fueled by their desire to excel on the field. Under the guidance of Head Coach Hernando Santamaria, the Minutemen are determined to build upon their previous successes relying on a blend of experienced players and rising stars.

During the 2022 season, the Minutemen finished with a commendable record of 8-7-3. As they gear up for the 2023 season, they bid farewell to some recent graduates who made significant contributions to the team's success. This includes Alex Atlas ‘23 (All-Super Essex Conference (SEC) Liberty Division First Team and All-State Private/Parochial and captain), Ashton Zhao ‘23 (All-SEC Liberty Division Honorable Mention), and Alejandro Lorenzo ‘23 (All-State Prep B First Team and captain).

However, the Minutemen are optimistic with a group of key returners who are ready to step up and make their mark. Jacob Cole ‘25 (All-SEC Liberty Division First Team, All-State Prep B First Team and All-State Private/Parochial Second Team), brings a wealth of skill and experience to the team. Additionally, James Morris ‘24, (All-SEC Liberty Division Second Team, All-State Prep B Honorable Mention, All-State Private/Parochial Honorable Mention and captain), Damian Correa ‘24 (All-SEC Liberty Division Second Team selection and captain), and James Bradstock ‘24 (All-SEC Liberty Division Honorable Mention) will contribute their talent and determination to propel the Minutemen forward.

Competing in the Super Essex Conference Liberty Division, the Minutemen will face a series of challenging matches against Verona, Cedar Grove, Montclair Kimberley Academy, Irvington, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield and Caldwell.

The season opener for the Minutemen is scheduled for Thursday, September 7, when they head to Cedar Grove at 4 pm.
