The Newark Academy varsity volleyball team is gearing up for an exciting new season filled with promise and determination. Under the guidance of Head Coach Bella Galvez with a mix of returning players and fresh faces, the Minutemen are prepared to give their all in pursuit of success.
Looking back at the 2022 season, the team finished with a record of 9-12, battling through both victories and defeats. Although they bid farewell to recent graduates and key players including Andrea Yan ‘23 (All-Super Essex Conference (SEC) American Division First Team selection and captain), Kiki Afolabi ‘23 (All-SEC American Division Second Team selection and All-Prep First Team), Chiara Maselli ‘23 (All-SEC American Division Honorable Mention) and Alyssa Cai ‘23 (captain), the Minutemen are determined to fill those gaps with fresh talent and determination.
A key returner for Newark Academy in the upcoming season is Lea Adams ‘25, who was recognized as an All-SEC American Division Honorable Mention last season.
Competing in the Super Essex Conference American Division, the Minutemen will face tough opponents such as Livingston, Verona, Montclair Kimberley Academy, Caldwell, Mount Saint Dominic and Millburn.
The 2023 season kicks off on Thursday, September 7, with a home match against Caldwell at 4 p.m.
