The Newark Academy boys’ soccer team topped Glen Ridge 4-2 in their final regular season match on October 23 to clinch the Super Essex Conference (SEC) Liberty Division. This division is made up of Verona, Cedar Grove, Montclair Kimberley Academy, Irvington, Glen Ridge, Bloomfield and Caldwell. This is the program’s first divisional win since 2013.
This season, the Minutemen swept the SEC Liberty, giving up only three divisional goals, while putting 16 goals past their divisional opponents. With this win, Newark Academy improves to 12-5 on the season. Aside from winning the division, other impressive victories of this season include their 1-0 upset win over state-ranked #5 Montclair and making it to the quarterfinal round in the Essex County, Prep and State Tournaments.
