Newark Academy Winter Track Hopeful for the Upcoming Season

As the winter sports season approaches, the Newark Academy varsity winter track team, led by returning Head Coach Nick Veneroso, gears up for another promising campaign after a stellar performance last year. The boys’ team, boasts back-to-back Prep Championships and a second-place finish at the State Group Championship during the 2022-23 season.

Major Losses:
The boys’ team graduated Bryce Rhodeman ‘23 (All-Non Public B Second Team High Jump), Pierce Malloy '23 (All-County Second Team 3200m) and Kayin Davis '23 and Ethan Garcia '23 (half of the All-Non Public B Third Team 4x400 Relay). The girls graduated captain Marie Kung '23.

Key Returners:
Despite notable departures, the boys return Matthew Herbert '25 (All-Non Public B and All-County First Team Pole Vault), LJ Hines '24 (All-Non Public B Third Team High Jump), Luka Opacic Rodrigues '24 and Jaeden Henry '25 ( half of the All-Non Public B Third Team 4x400 Relay Team). The girls’ squad will rely on key returners and newcomers alike.

Looking Ahead:
The 2023-24 captains will be Allie Singh '24, Luka '24, and Ishaan Solanki '24.

Save the Date:
The season opener for the Minutemen is the Essex County Track Coaches Association Invite at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island on December 15 at 4 p.m.
