Newark Academy Swimming Breaks Records and Boasts Top Finishes at SEC Championship Meet

Newark Academy girls' swimming broke two school records, while both the girls and boys had multiple first-place finishes at the Super Essex Conference/Essex County (SEC/ECC) Championship meet on January 15, 2024. The girls' 200 Medley Relay team of Claire Wong '25, Kim Tran '27, Laura Kim '25 and Meghan Lai '24 placed first and broke the standing school record with a time of 1:48.72. The second broken school record came from Kim Tran in the 100 Breaststroke (1:03.94). The other first-place finishes for the Newark Academy girls came in the 200 IM from Laura Kim and the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Meghan Lai, Claire Wong, Kim Tran and Laura Kim (1:40.65). The girls placed second overall with a score of 267, behind Montclair (293), a top 20 team in the state.

On the boys' side, Owen Markowitz '24 placed first in both the 200 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle for the second year in a row. The boys also finished second overall with a score of 187.5 (county)/189.5 (conference), behind Seton Hall Prep (325), the reigning champions for the 26th consecutive year.
