The Newark Academy softball team is gearing up for a promising season. The team has grown in size and will now also have a junior varsity team, providing more room for growth and development of each team member. The team is coming off last season with a 6-16 record. Under the seasoned guidance of head coach Dana Pomykala, who enters her sixth season in charge, the team is ready to make its mark in the Super Essex Conference (SEC) Liberty division.
While Newark Academy bids farewell to captains Eleni Morin ‘23 and Dina Drogin ‘23, the team will look to captains Lily Sternlieb ‘24, Gracie Kelly ‘25, Alexa Jacob ‘24 for guidance and leadership.
The Minutemen return numerous key members of their lineup that earned post-season accolades last year. This includes All-Super Essex Conference (SEC) and All-Prep honorees, Sternlieb, Kelly and Shayne Cleeve ‘24 and All-Prep honorable mention Sadie Trynin ‘26.
This season, Newark Academy will again compete in the Super Essex Conference Liberty division against Bloomfield, Verona, Millburn, Payne Tech, Glen Ridge and Nutley.
The team is preparing for their season opener on Monday, April 1st, against Nutley at 4 p.m.
