Hopeful for another decorated season, boys’ golf has been hard at work preparing for their first match in the coming days. In 2023, the Minutemen finished with an impressive 14-1 record, clinching both the Essex County Tournament Championship and the State Championship.

Under the guidance of head coach Robin Curtis, who is entering her 18th year with Newark Academy, the team is working for yet another successful campaign after an outstanding performance last season. Coach Curtis, a seasoned leader in the realm of golf, was recognized as the 2023 New Jersey Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Golf Professional of the Year, the highest honor for a PGA Professional within the section.

Heading into the upcoming season, the team leans on returning captains, TJ Betlow ‘24 and Zach Rosner ‘24. Aside from the return of both captains, Newark Academy returns a strong lineup, including All-Super Essex Conference (SEC) American division and All-State honoree Arjun Caprihan ‘25, and All-SEC honorees Betlow, Benedikt Guth ‘25, Kevin Ha ‘24, Shreyas Hariharan ‘24, Aryik Yadav ‘25, and Aaron Li ‘24.

In the upcoming season, the Minutmen will once again compete in the American division of the Super Essex Conference, facing Seton Hall Prep, Millburn, Livingston, Montclair, West Orange, and Glen Ridge.

The team is gearing up for their season opener on April 2nd at their home course, Essex Fells Country Club. They will tee off at 3:30 p.m. against Glen Ridge.
